Biography

Susan Fraser-Hughes, (born 1966), Australia, is a conceptual artist residing and working in Vancouver, Canada. Her works are dense and realistic . Susan’s work are based on the concept of healing. Through her works, she dives deeper in shadow places and emerges with forgiveness and letting go. With realistic play of light and darkness, the works aim to explore connection with one another, with universe and with oneself. Through drawing and art installation, the works create sites defining moments in her journey of evolution of internal self.

Susan completed her Phd in Fine Arts at Aberystwyth University, Wales, United Kingdom in 2017, Master of Fine Arts at The University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta in 2002, Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction at Alberta College of Art and Design, Calgary, Alberta in 2000, Art History Summer School at Cambridge University, Cambridge, England in 2001. Susan, in her career of 30 years, has exhibited in solo and group shows at VisualSpace Gallery, Vancouver (2024), Seymour Art Gallery, Deep Cove (2024), Calgary Library, Calgary (2022), INAOSSIEN Art (2020), Resonance, Vancouver, Canada (2015), Manifest Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio (2019).

Her works are in several private collections in several countries. Susan won several awards throughout her career including London International Creative Competition (2019), London International Creative Competition, LICC Category Winner (2011), Visual Arts Grant, Alberta Foundation for the Arts (2006). Her works are published by best selling magazines including Art On World (2024) (2023) (2022), Argument 07, Artistic and literary magazine (2024).
